Walt Disney World® Resort Pin Trading Night Event Recap

Last week on April 17th we went to our first official pin event. We didn’t go with much since we are just staring out trading with other traders but both of us were amazed at how many people were at the event. Many of the traders there would set up at a table and lay everything they had out for anyone who stopped by to see. Traders would table hop to see what others had. Many were very trusting in leaving there stuff there while they look around at other traders, we personally were not confortable with going through their collection while they were away. But since many of the traders had been trading with other traders for years and we had only ever been trading with cast members this made getting pins we wanted a little bit more work than it did for others.
When trading for pins with other traders and not cast members one of the worst things is when they have a pin you want and you don’t have pins to offer them that they would want. There is a somewhat easy solution to this dilemma and it would be to do a cross trade. The best definition that we could come up with this activity that many avid pin traders partake in is this: you trade with other traders to get pins you do not want but for the person that has the pin you want and then trade with those. Essentially it’s a 3-way trade. At every pin table my first question would be “what type of pins are you looking for?” they would respond and with that answer we would judge if trading with this trader would be possible for me or not, then we would go on my hunt.
For one of my trades that we did a 3-way trade with was for a limited edition Mike Wazowski pin. We honestly didn’t think it was going to be something we could get since it was a limited edition but the trader was only looking for Tsum Tusms pins. These pins are very hard to find since many people don’t trade them and get purchased from the stores the moment they get put out. Luckily we were able to find a few people who had Tsum Tsums pins and were able to trade with them for the pins that we already had. The trader agreed two Tsum Tsums pins for one of the Mike pins, in my opinion a fair trade given the rarity of the Tsum Tsums.
This may sound confusing but it is in fact very easy as long as you have some patients and determination to get the pins you want.
In addition to our pin trading experience, we also got to see some of the new open edition and limited edition pins that are going to be released between May 2015 through July 2015.

We had a lot of fun at the pin event and traded a lot of great pins from other pin traders. Even if you do not have any great pins to trade it is still a fantastic viewing experience to see other peoples pin collections and look at the great pins that you might not have known existed. It is also a nice change of scenery from the cast member lanyards from inside the theme parks and Downtown Disney. The pin event is typically held once a month to once every two months and for only $10 it is worth every penny. Everybody in the room has the same passion and goal as you do and for just a couple for hours you are surrounded with pin collectors just like you.
