Dapper Day 2013

If you look up the word dapper in the dictionary, you will discover that it means to be neat and trim in dress, appearance, or bearing. This word comes to mind because of a recent event that took place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. On a lovely Saturday in September, the dapper crowd took to the Studios to enjoy the evening and ride the Great Movie Ride. Dapper Day has become a yearly event in many of the Disney Parks around the World. Each year, this event has taken place in the fall and spring in California, Florida, and Paris. In order to celebrate Dapper Day, you need to get dressed in your finest attire and head to the parks.
The whole goal of this event is to dress in a way that reflects what Disney guests of the 1950s would have worn to the parks. People used to get pretty dressed up to go to the parks, and that is not the case anymore. In order to get inspiration for outfits, many dapper guests perused old concept artwork for Disney attractions or old photos from Disneyland in the 1950s and 1960s. Since the fall event took place at the Studios, some guests definitely channeled old Hollywood to complete their dapper looks. In addition to dressing stylishly, some people even went so far as to emulate a Disney character in a subtle way with their clothing. This is more commonly known as Disneybounding. In order to accomplish this look, you need to take inspiration from a Disney character and then incorporate some of the key pieces of that character into your ensemble. The key is not to wear a costume, but just to give a taste of that character by using your regular clothes.
When we arrived at the Studios, we headed to the Chinese Theater in order to ride the Great Movie Ride with the rest of the dapper crowd. It turns out that quite a few people showed up for this event. We overheard that there were several hundred people there dressed in their dapper finest. Once everyone had assembled, we all boarded the Great Movie Ride. After riding, everyone dispersed throughout the park on order to pose for pictures. We particularly enjoyed posing near the Tower of Terror and on Hollywood Blvd. The backdrops really fit with our dapper looks. After enjoying the Studios, many people went to the Boardwalk Resort in order to continue the dapper festivities. So, if you are near Disneyland, the next event will take place on February 23, 2014, and the Disney World event will take place on March 9, 2014.
