Paid promotion for Disney.
7:00:01 they were sold out. Way to post all the info so far in advance for all the pieces of shit who just resell them. You’re probably one of them. I have been working my ass off fighting COVID as a nurse, get up early on my day off for this to happen.
While what is happening is truly sick, well, maybe not COVID sick, but definitely makes you feel ill thinking about it, I believe that I would have never been able to purchase my Goofy Movie pin had it not been for this blog. This pin was the very first time I had ever paid for a preorder release on eBay. I figured, with shipping, the little extra more I was paying was basically a convenience charge for me not being able to go to the parks. …then they weren’t able to go to the parks. There was no issue with communication or refunds, but when the blog mentioned this, the very next day, an hour after release, I bought it on ShopDisney. After shipping and tax, it was pretty much exactly what I had paid for on eBay! Then I went back on the site and saw what the ShopDisney resellers were listing/selling for. For all I know, they started at $5, but bidders bid them up that high! I checked the site, still available. They could literally buy it for less on ShopDisney, right then and there! They did not know because they did not follow the blog. The next week though, two of the pins I was trying to get sold out instantly. By then they knew.
I noticed that with pins from BoxLunch, the local stores (back when they were open) would sell out fast. One day an employee explained that some sell out the day of (before this blog posts about it) and others will just sit on the rack forever. They claimed it was some sort of Facebook group. Now that I believe! Does this blog cross post on Facebook, or aggregates information from there?
Hello! I typically search the BoxLunch website for new pin releases myself and then blog about them, or I work with BoxLunch directly. A lot of times BoxLunch employees will let me know when new pins release as well. So information kind of comes from everywhere! All of the pin news is posted on the DPB website first, and then I distribute via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Podcast, YouTube, Discord and the Newsletter.
I am sorry that you missed your pin but don’t be rude. Disney Pin Blogs is a great source of FREE information! Thank you Ryan for the work you do, I couldn’t pin collect successfully without your help.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I try my best. 🙂 For the record, if anyone is wondering, I was NOT able to purchase the Nurses Day pin. I tried for the May giveaway at DPB but did not have any luck.
Are yo guys going to be making window of evil pins again?
Also what about father day pin mother’s day pin teacher appreciation pin
how do we get the passholder pins?
Anyone have any luck getting the Nurse’s Day 2020 pin? I had three devices refreshing like crazy, and my sister had two devices.. and we didn’t even get the item’s screen to pop up until 07:02 after they sold out 🙁
I am SO sad.. I couldn’t get last year’s pin OR this year’s pin.
And I believe I earned it.. I’m an ER nurse and I frequently get placed in our COVID/PUI respiratory area of our department. *shrugs* Oh well, time to get some sleep before my next shift…
I’m a nurse who has been looking forward to buying this pin for a year. I was on Shop Disney at 10:00 to buy this as my nurse’s week gift and it was already sold out at 10:00. I’m so upset.
If anyone was able to buy an extra one I would buy it from you at a fair price.
Omg I feel you. I’m in the covid unit and so are my brave friends who fight by my side and none of us were able to get one because we were busy getting report in the morning just to see it up for $200 on eBay. It just goes to show how thankful everyone is for us healthcare workers… back to our 12 hour shifts, scars on our faces, and families we can’t hug for another month. thanks Disney for only having 3000 pins…. only 10 nurses probably actually got them because we’re either busting our ass at work OR sleeping from a night shift after keeping our coding patient alive! =| I would also like to purchase it from someone at a reasonable price or Disney, please make more so we can treat ourselves for nurses week. Nurses… keep staying strong… it’ll all be over soon. <3
It truly sucks that a pin that says “I earned these ears” for nurses, in the middle of a pandemic sold out so quick and there are soooo many on ebay for $150. Even $200. One even has a pic of the confirmation screen showing they paid $26.33. The want $200 plus $3.95 for shipping. Total scum.
I worry that all future releases will go like this. They’ll buy up every pin and hundreds will flood eBay at $100 or more.
With the castle collection and the I collect pins coming up I have little hope.
EVERYONE BOYCOTT THIS PIN ON EBAY. DISNEY please come out with a similar open edition for us fighting the Pandemic on the front lines.
Please no one buy this pin on Ebay…. Starting at 100.00 is Disgusting.
This is the only way to stop this.
The entire practice in general needs to be boycotted. With PayPal and eBay fees, if they can’t make a profit after taking that into consideration (remember, many used to have to drive, fuel costs and paid parking, to pick up some of these), they will stop the resell, if they start seeing a loss.
There’s been a few occasions where, after a few years, I will pick up the sold out $50+ low number LE pin with backer for LESS than the original MSRP! It sucks, but fans of all Disney merch needs to stop this madness! If spending $50 for a popcorn bucket is crazy, spending $200 for a pin is equally insane! I won’t spend more than what it would cost me with shipping and tax included, which means sellers are losing money because I’m not paying eBay or PayPal fees. How much of a discount do AP get? Can’t be enough to cover for that.
Disney needs to do what Ty did with beanie babies and just rerelease or flood the market. Devalue these back to the point when only true fans will and can buy them. Disney will makes more by selling more. They aren’t seeing the $100 profits. Instead they’re seeing unhappy fans. I hope someone at Disney follows this blog, and lets the appropriate department in charge know about how sick it was reading about all the nurses would couldn’t get a pin despite truly “earning their ears.”
BTW, also on eBay, I noticed a lot of fantasy pins where characters are wearing facial masks. That was pretty fast.
I can’t believe many of these have already SOLD on eBay for $150, with bidding going even higher with actual bidders!!! 1/5th of the country is unemployed! The other half should be using that money supporting other businesses that are open. $150 could go to so many different people! I am not judging anyone for spending $10-20 on a pin, as they would have done that anyway, but $150 not only supports this practice of buying to resell, but prevents the buyer from using that money towards other goods and services. And SOO MANY are doing this, not just one or two! I honestly would rather see that $150 go straight to Disney. …unless THEY are the resellers. …you don’t think they would stoop to that level, would they?
Disney needs to immediately lower the purchase limit to 1. A le 2000 and there are already over 400 that have been offered on eBay? Disney hasn’t even shipped these pins yet! How many bought them and will wait til they have them in hand? It is likely half of the pins sold to speculators? Great way to get people to stop collecting pins? Why bother when I won’t be able to get them?
noticed the cinco de mayo, cruisers and unicorn pin were limited to one per order!
The problem is shopping bots. They get the links before you are able to and they are able to check out almost instantly. Now the people who use those bots know the limited Disney pins can be flipped quickly for a lot of money. Until people stop buying them on eBay, this will unfortunately continue. I gave up after the May the 4th fiasco and then learned what was happening. Even with limits, the resellers are able to buy multiples.
This is all very sad and discourages me from even trying. I hope Disney will address it. They should definitely have limits, even though we know the bots can get around them. Can’t they identify them and kick them out? Maybe the releases should be staggered in some way.
My preference actually would be to hold all the pins until the parks open again. I think they would all still sell then. It eliminates the bots and the tech glitches. It makes it hard for people not near the parks, but they apparently can’t get them in the internet releases anyway, and are stuck with e-bay prices being even higher than they used to be.
We should all stop buying the outrageously priced pins on e-bay–I have no problem with a reasonable mark up, but it’s ridiculous that nurses can’t get the nurse’s day pin for less than 100.
Someone posted on a pin trading page today some tweets from a bot group on twitter (not going to say the name and advertise for them). Basically they are getting links with pre-loaded carts and giving them to their paying group members. It is allowing them to check out immediately. This is why we aren’t able to get the pins.
