The Disneyland 60th Anniversary Mystery Puzzle Pin Set (which comes in four series, the third series most recently released) is not a Limited Edition of 5,000 as you have reported time and time again. Disneyland also advertises the pin set as a 5,000 in its weekly release album that they have in the pin stores for customers to see and plan their purchases. It is in fact a limited edition of 550 total sets (of 32 pins per set of which 24 have been released). Each series has two chaser pins which is limited to 300 and they are simply stunning. Also, Disney has incorporated a few minor design changes to help prevent authenticity and allow collectors to identify future or current “scrappers”. This set requires patience to put together, as Disneyland allows the purchasers a limit of 2 pins per day (per store) and having to put the sets together via trading or online trading of duplicates. This has got to be the toughest and rarest set to put together for the 60th Anniversary Celebration.
With a total of 32 different pins (ranging from Mary Poppins to Buzz Lightyear), collectors of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Buzz, Goofy, Pluto, etc will be buying the single character pins in droves that will certainly keep the number of complete set built to approximately 150 or less. Do not discount the importance of this set, as it will catch many pin traders and collectors by surprise. Just to put the whole set together of 32 pins plus the 8 chaser pins will cost $520, not to mention all the money spent on duplicates. Watch this set carefully as the potential to garner additional interest (after the fourth series sells out) is tremendous.
