DISNEY IS CELEBRATING 90 YEARS OF MICKEY MOUSE WITH WORLDWIDE FESTIVITIES
Beginning next week, Disney will be launching a world-wide celebration honoring 90 years of Mickey Mouse. This cross-company celebration will continue throughout the year and will include an exclusive fashion show, a new television special, a celebration at Disney parks and resorts, and much more.
Here’s the schedule for all of the events, specials, and activities throughout 2018 and beyond:
- March 7– A runway fashion event titled “The Happiest Show on Earth” will take place inside Disneyland. The show will feature a Mickey-inspired collection designed by couture brand Opening Ceremony. Select items will be immediately available for sale at shopDisney.com. The remaining looks will hit stores in November.
- Throughout the Year- Disney Channel will debut season five of the Mickey Mouse animated shorts, including a special seven-minute extended-length birthday episode that will air later this year.
- Throughout the Year- Disney store and shopDisney.com will continue to celebrate milestone moments for Mickey Mouse with the Mickey Mouse Memories Collection. This is a monthly, limited-release series of 12 collectible plush, mugs, and pins inspired by Mickey’s most memorable movie roles. Check out our blog post on this collection here.
- Throughout the Year- Disney Publishing Worldwide will introduce more than 30 books, comics, and arts & crafts globally as part of Mickey’s 90th.
- This Fall- ABC will air a star-studded celebration of Mickey in honor of his birthday, with special guests, musical performances, and more.
- November 18- Walt Disney Parks and Resorts around the world will celebrate Mickey’s 90th birthday. There will be commemorative merchandise, photo locations, and more.
- Late 2018 into 2019- World’s Biggest Mouse Party, saluting Mickey and Minnie Mouse will take place at Disney Parks worldwide. More information to come.
- July 2018 through August 2019- Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Special Celebration, a new production showcasing Mickey Mouse’s memories throughout the years, will tour internationally.
In addition, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club will be celebrating Mickey’s 90th throughout 2018:
- Legendary Disney animator Mark Henn has been commissioned to paint Mickey’s official 90th birthday portrait. This new portrait will debut on the cover of the Fall issue of Disney twenty-three, a quarterly publication from D23.
- This November, D23 will present Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse, a two-day event at Walt Disney World Resort featuring panels, presentations, and fun-filled entertainment.
- This year’s annual D23 Gold Member gift is an exclusive box set of 23 special Mickey Mouse momentos.
