I am wildly uncomfortable approaching people to trade at the parks, thats why I tended to stick to cast members. Since cast member pins are almost all scrapers though I need a pep talk on how to talk to people apparently!
Do you run up to anyone with a lanyard? Do you wait for someone carrying a pinfolio? Are people just crying pinfoloios?
How do you politely tell people who want to trade with you that their stuff is actually fake?
What I’m looking for is a boost of confidence on how to start trading for reals.
If you’re a Florida pin trader I’d say the best way to start would be to go to Epcot where the pin traders meet. (By the Pin Traders store). There’s almost always someone there trading.
If you’re just walking around the parks and see someone with a lanyard, I generally just ask Are you trading? Lots of people with lanyards are just showing them off. So they may not even be trading.
As far as fakes are concerned I just assume everything that I haven’t purchased physically from Disney is fake and am ok with that. I’m not planning to make money and sell them. In that case I would feel bad about selling them to people knowing they were fake, but since they are just for me to look at and enjoy I’m ok if they’re fake. If they’re not that’s even better. In regards to people trying to trade you things that are fake you can simply just say no thanks. There’s really no need to tell a person (a child especially) that their pins are fake and that’s why you don’t want them.
