So,my wife and I went to the Mickey’s of Glendale pop-up this weekend and got some stuff, but not everything we wanted. I understand that. Just curious everyone’s thoughts on the eBay markups? I mean anyone can ask anything for any pin, but some of these asks are ridiculous. I mean it makes me want to go out and do the same thing. I could probably finance a decent haul and try and make some money, but I don’t really know how morally I feel about charging 4-6 times retail.
Hey Andrew! I do see what you’re saying. Some of the eBay prices are pretty insane. A lot of times though the pins are so limited and take a lot to get them (flights, hotel, event prices, waiting in line and so on) so I understand the markup. Then you have the supply/demand of the pin which fluctuates the market.
On the auction sites you can ASK whatever you want for an item, that doesn’t mean anyone is going to pay that price. Folks ask insane prices for pins and as long as folks are willing to PAY those prices it will continue.
Yea most of the things that are still on eBay are there because people are asking too high of a price. Hence, they are still available. I was personally at the pop up that day also. I unfortunately adhered to the “rules” they posted on the website and didnt show up until 4 o’clock. Needless to say when I showed up and saw the enormous line that had been there for hours (from what I was told by a cast member) I was very upset.
Long story short, None of the pins that I actually wanted were still available so I ended up buying 1 of everything that was still available to sell on ebay to pay for the gas (From Tampa) and the 3 hours that I ended up waiting in line ultimately for nothing.
The pins actually ended up selling for about double what I paid for them which I feel is reasonable.
